Do your part, Save a Heart

Help us save lives by raising money to support the American Heart Association.  Our school goal is $4,275. If we meet our goal, I will dress head to toe in UGA and do a bulldawg cheer on the news. K-2 students are excited about Jump Rope for Heart 3-5 students are excited about Hoops for Heart  

Jump, Hop, & Leap

Recently in PE we have been learning about and practicing jumping, hopping, and leaping.  K-2 students love to do our jump, hop, and leap obstacle course and play Leaping Lizard. 

JUMP ROPE & HOOPS FOR HEART

Get excited about Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart!  February is National Heart Health month and we are learning about how to keep a healthy heart.  Our event dates are Wednesday, February 4 and Thursday, February 5.  Parent letters and collection envelopes are going home on Friday, January 16.  Nearly everyone has someone in their family or knows of a close friend that has suffered a heart attack, had heart surgery, or has a sick heart.  I encourage you to participate and help us raise money for the American Heart Association.  You can help your child register online and send emails to friends and family. Simply go to www.heart.org/jump or www.heart.org/hoops and click on Register Today .   Please return all donations by Friday, January 30. All students will participate in our Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart event.   K-2 students will participate in fun and exciting jumping activities. Winter Stations

The students have been enjoying winter activities in PE.  We have been practicing overhand throwing, underhand tossing, and balancing skills.  A few of the activities include, ice skating, snowball toss with a partner, snowball throw at bowling pins, and a game called Snowball Action-a good old fashioned snowball fight (using soft yarn balls).

Basketball

We have been learning about and practicing basketball skills in PE. DRIBBLING cues: bend the knees, use finger pads dribble the ball on the side of your body  keep ball at waist level or lower keep head up opposite foot forward opposite arm up to protect the ball PASSING cues: ball at the chest step forward and extend arms thumbs point down palms turn out; away from each other SHOOTING cues: B - bend the knees E - elbows in E - extend arm F - follow through and flick the wrist

Mustang Trotters

We had another great year in Mustang Trotters!  77 students participated and enjoyed exercising with their friends. We look forward to seeing you next fall! Stay active! CONGRATULATIONS to our Golden Horseshoe winners: Millie Durham (4th grade) - 79 miles Isabel Miller (3rd grade) - 78 miles   Millie and Isabel jogged at Mustang Trotters AND logged miles outside of Trotters, which is fantastic and exemplifies a healthy, active lifestyle. Great job girls!
