Push the Pancake!

Image
The students love playing Push the Pancake. It's a crazy game which involves several skills. All students begin as a pancake player. Each student has a pan (paddle) with a pancake (beanbag) on top. Students guard their own pancakes while pushing other students' pancakes off. If a pancake falls or gets pushed off the pan, that student becomes a bowler outside the boundaries. Bowlers try to hit pancake players' feet. When a bowler hits a pancake players' feet, he gets to rejoin the pancake game inside the boundaries. Push the Pancake works on dodging, bowling, hand-eye coordination, reaction time, strategy, and aiming at a moving target.

It's my favorite time of year in PE....teaching and practicing overhand throwing skills.  I'm pretty sure it's an exciting time for the students as well.  We have lots of fun overhand throwing games. Bumper Ball - 4th grade Students use an overhand throw to hit the big pink ball.  First team to get it across the opposite teams' line wins! Ghostbusters - 4th Grade Students use an overhand throw to hit students' ghosts down. If your ghost gets knocked down, you take it to the hospital for healing and jog a lap before rejoining the game. Angry Birds - Kindergarten & 4th Grade Students overhand throw angry birds to knock down pig pens on the opposite teams' side. The first team to knock down all pig pens wins.
